Programme Notes by Terry Hissey – Maidenhead United

Articles & Blogs
On behalf of the WFC Supporter’s Club I would like to welcome the supporters of Maidenhead United to Grosvenor Vale this afternoon. Please come and visit the Megastore before the match, at half-time or after the game….you don’t have that much of a long journey home! I’m sure that you will find a book, programme or piece of merchandise to buy for a good price and a souvenir of your visit.    Now despite being a WFC fan for 28 years now, this is the first time I have written a general article for the programme. (Ok I was the featured ‘Fan in the Stand’ a few seasons back). I started supporting the Stones when they played at Lower Mead and was enrolled as a ‘Junior Stone’ under one ‘Head Stone’ by the name of Dave…

Wealdstone 6 Hampton & Richmond Borough 0

Match Reports
Wealdstone 6 Hampton & Richmond Borough 0 Middlesex Senior Cup – 2nd Round By Nick DuGard   Wealdstone took a welcome day off from the rigours of the Vanarama Conference South on Saturday and in the process completely outplayed former league rivals and current holders of the Middlesex Senior Cup, Hampton & RB. Stones superiority was about as much as you can have in a competitive match and although the Beavers are clearly a side under transition under new Manager Alan Dowson, this was a real drubbing by any standards, the home side exacting full revenge for their defeat to Hampton in last season’s Cup Final. Stones new boys, Connor Calcutt on loan from Stevenage and permanent signing Matt Ball both made their debuts and both performed very well. The whole team looked relaxed and played cohesively as a unit throughout and restricted Hampton to…

Stones sign Matt Ball from Farnborough

Announcements
Wealdstone have signed 21 year old creative midfielder Matt Ball from Vanarama Conference South rivals Farnborough for a small undisclosed transfer fee. The Northern Ireland U21 international is a product of Norwich City's youth team, he joined the club at the age of 12. He captained the Academy side during the  2010/11 season and his step up to the reserves was rewarding as the midfielder found the net 8 times in 14 games. Ball signed for League Two side Stevenage prior to the 2012/13 season and in February 2013 he secured a one-month loan move to Farnborough. After a loan spell at Farnborough last season, the youngster made his debut for the pro ranks at Swindon Town in April 2013, coming on as a 75th minute sub. He  then made…

Programme Notes – Basingstoke Town

Articles & Blogs
Good Afternoon and welcome to the Vale for today’s VanaramaConference South match against Basingstoke Town.  Whilst Basingstoke’s audacious bid to bring Ronaldinho to the club failed and with it shattering the hopes of dreams of singing “It’s just like watching Brazil”, Wealdstone’s performances have been getting much better. I have been incredibly impressed with the support that you the fans have showed the team in recent weeks. Only at Wealdstone would a 2-0 defeat in a FA Cup replay, where although we were down to 10 men we were a little bereft of ideas, be followed by a sold out supporters club coach to Weston. Those fans showed dedication when their team needed them and were rewardedwith a 2-1 win. Perhaps we should run coaches to home games? It is times like these when my pride to be…

Wealdstone 0 Basingstoke Town 1

Match Reports
Vanarama Conference South leaders Basingstoke Town grabbed an unlikely 93rd minute winner at The Vale on Saturday in a hugely absorbing game leaving the home side gutted. A single moment of untypically poor defending from a wonderfully committed home side allowed Dragons defender David Ray to head home unmarked at the death.   Rapidly improving Stones defied their lowly league position and took the game to their lofty visitors from kick-off. In fact after only one minute the lively Joe Turner went on a mazy run but his eventual strike was comfortably saved by Stuart Moore. The away side hit back and only a block from Tom Hamblin prevented a goal bound strike from hitting the target.   But Stones are improving as a side rapidly and their play continued in a very positive vein pushing the visitors back but also defending competently. Ryan Watts…
