Supporters Club Programme Notes by Adam Edwards – Gosport Borough (Sat, 21 Feb)

Articles & Blogs
Good afternoon one and all and welcome to The Vale for today’s game verses Gosport Borough. We trust you and your fellow fans have a pleasant stay here with us in the heart of Middlesex and also have time to share a drink with the supporters in the clubhouse after the game.   In the week that the Premier League announced record TV sponsorship, I could not feel further removed and less motivated to sit down and watch a top level game. Will the lower tiers of football see much of this money? Probably not but it will certainly mean more clubs from all levels push themselves to the limits to reach the Promised Land. However in stark contrast to this announcement I did catch an episode of FA Cup 5th Round Rewind on the BBC. Two features did stand out. The first was a half hour segment on…

Hemel Hempstead Town 1 Wealdstone 1 (Tue, 17 Feb)

Match Reports
A seriously depleted Wealdstone side did themselves proud at Vauxhall Road on Tuesday evening with a very solid battling display, earning themselves a deserved point and they could have taken all three with a bit of luck and better finishing. Left back Ryan Parsons had been rapidly drafted in as cover for the unavailable Ryan Watts and James Hammond was slotted into a centre back role with Sean Cronin and Wes Parker both also not available. Parsons acquitted himself well throughout as did the whole team who were under considerable pressure in a rumbustious atmosphere but roared on by 250 Stones fans. Tuesday’s game started in much the same way as the abandoned game with Hemel taking an early lead through Dennis Oli, who broke clear down the right and…

Staines Town 1 Wealdstone 2 (Sat, 14 Feb)

Match Reports
Staines Town 1 Wealdstone 2   Wealdstone avoided a massive Staines banana skin at Wheatsheaf lane on Saturday and were able to comfortably claim a valuable three points in their quest for league safety.   Stones dominated the first half on a perfectly playable surfacedespite heavy overnight rain. Wealdstone’s greater possession and attacking threat delivered up two goals in the first period from Micky Corcoran and away man of the match Luke O’Nien.   Although the home side fought back in a scrappier second period and won a penalty, Stones defence comfortably held out for the win and a huge boost following last week’ssurprisingly poor defeat at home to Weston super Mare.    Stones needed a decent start and with good forward play from Nathan Manvila and Jefferson Louis they soon started to threaten a fragile looking Swans back line.  Manvila used his pace brilliantly on eight minutes when he crossed for Louis with only the keeper Jack Turner to beat but…

Wealdstone 1 Weston-Super-Mare 3 (Sat, 7 Feb)

Match Reports
Wealdstone’s eleven match unbeaten run came to a crashing end on Saturday at The Vale when they paid the inevitable price for a woeful first 20 minutes when they conceded three goals, two of them penalties. In a virtual repeat of their lamentable start against Hemel Hempstead in their abandoned midweek game, Stones failed to get to grips with a lively attack from the start.   And despite a far better second period when a rejuvenated home side finally got the bit between their teeth, the three goal deficit and poor finishing proved to be far too much to salvage anything from the game   The Seagulls dominated from the first whistle and took the lead after only 10 minutesplay. The lively Joe McClennan crossed to the far post where the waiting Oliver Watkins fired home. And only 7 minutes later Stones deficit…

Gordon has waved his magic wand again and beaten off strong competition from other clubs  for his signature, and judging from his impressive debut, it could prove to be a fantastic signing. We wish you a long and successful career with the Stones, Scott.   Currently we are updating the details  we hold for life members. If you have changed address, telephone numbers, or email address in the last few years, could you please email me at  jeanette_dalton@ hotmail.co.uk with the…
