Match Report: Saturday, 18 April 2015: Vanarama Conference South: Maidenhead United 1  Wealdstone 4

Wealdstone’s final Vanarama Conference South match of the season was always going to be a celebration off the pitch with a near 300 strong travelling army determined to enjoy proceedings but their fantastic support was rewarded with another great away victory and a fitting finale.

Stones came into this match with a depleted defence but the so-called makeshift line up did magnificently well with Carl Martin and Scott McGleish filling the centre back positions and Luke O’Nien and James Hammond covering expertly in the full back positions.

Shaun Lucien opened the scoring for Stones as early as the seventh minute when the lively wide man curled a lovely free kick over the wall and past keeper Elvijis Putnins. But the Magpies soon hit back when Jacob Erskine moved clear with a free header to net for a quick leveller.

United failed to take advantage of this boost and the scores remained level at the break.

Stones, now playing with great freedom, took complete control of the second period with striker Johnny Wright taking centre stage enjoying a star performance.

Ten minutes after the turnaround Putnins spilled the ball under pressure and Wright was on hand to bundle the ball home to give his side the lead once more. Wright turned provider in the 66th minute when he rounded the beleaguered Putnins and dinked to the far post for the waiting Matt Ball to nod in.

Stones wrapped up the scoring and another trademark away victory when the hard working Jefferson Louis fired home with ten minutes remaining, and there was still time for youngster Jack Smith to make his first team debut.

Wealdstone: North, Hammond, O’Nien, Martin, McGleish, Brown, Wright, Davies (Godfrey 85), Louis (Jolly 85), Ball. Lucien (Smith 87). Subs not used: Parker, Corcoran.
