A late own goal from Alan Massey at Bury Town ended a miserable week for Wealdstone. Despite an excellent overall performance their slim playoff hopes were dealt a further hammer blow. Wealdstone had to come from two goals down to salvage a point against a tough East Thurrock United side on Saturday in their quest to reach the play-off zone. But a dramatic second half recovery never looked on the cards after a tired and jaded looking Stones gifted their well organised visitors a comfortable two goal lead at the interval. This appeared to be the ‘reaction’ game as Stones incredible physical and mental efforts over recent weeks finally caught up with them, but some astute substitutions in the second period – aided by a sending off – brought Stones level and they could and should have claimed all three points in the end. Wealdstone and Watford are pleased to announce details of a joint event - an informal football Q&A evening - to which fans of both clubs are invited. The panel will consist of Hornets and Stones managers, Sean Dyche and Gordon Bartlett, along with a member of the first team playing squad from both clubs. There is no set agenda and the evening will flow totally according to questions set by guests. The event 'At Your Place - Wealdstone' is set for a 7.30pm start on Thursday April 26 at the Ruislip Social Club and doors will open from 6pm. Wealdstone’s epic FA Trophy adventure ended on Saturday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Blue Square Premier side Newport County. Having lost the first leg 3-1 in Wales last weekend it was always going to be a huge ask for Stones to overturn the deficit, and whilst they battled and fought for every ball they were unable to find a way past a well organised Newport side who will now go on to play York City in the final at Wembley Stadium in May.
