The Club’s Annual Awards evening was held on Saturday 18th April after our home game against Scunthorpe United in the Main Hall.
Deon Woodman picked up the prestigious Jock Law Trophy as Supporters’ Club Player of the Season. This was presented by Nick Dugard and saw Deon follow in the footsteps of previous winners and fans favourites such as Stuart Pearce, Jermain Beckford, Tom Pett, Jonathan North and last season’s winner, Alex Reid.
Over the season, Deon was a real rock at the back; solid, reliable and cool under pressure, and well deserving of the Award.
The Jock Law Trophy is presented at the end of every season to the player who has received the highest number of votes in a ballot by members of the Supporters Club.
Named after Tom “Jock” Law, who was the first chairman holding office from February 1958 to January 1965 and gave many years of sterling service to the Supporters Club and football club.
Its inauguration is first mentioned in the programme versus Kingstonian on the 25th October 1969:
“The Supporters Club Committee had a meeting with the Football club Officers, last week, and decided to make an annual Sportsman of the Year award. This trophy will be in memory of Jock Law. It is a great gesture by the Supporters Club, and it is nice to know that a man of the calibre of Jock Law will never be forgotten”.
It was first awarded at the end of that season to goalkeeper Andy Williams.
