16 April 2016

Many good things happened at Wembley Stadium in 1966 – and Wealdstone FC are celebrating the golden anniversary of their own moment of triumph that glorious year.

16 April 2016 is the 50th anniversary of Wealdstone FC winning the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley Stadium.  We will be marking such an important milestone in the Club’s history and to recognise the achievements of the players that got us to the Final.

On this day we have a home National League South fixture versus Maidenhead United FC and we have invited the surviving members of the ’66 campaign to join us for a lunch celebration and to watch the match afterwards.

Attending are:

John Ashworth?Mickey Doyle??Gordon Sedgley??Charlie Townsend

Eddie Dillsworth?Brian Allen??Hugh Lindsay??Jim Cooley?

Bernie Bremer??Arthur Paisley??Roy Lavender??John Wortley

Representing Hendon FC and a former Wealdstone player is Geoff Riddy.

The referee who went on to become a FIFA Official, 92 year old Norman Burtenshaw OBE.

Also representing the players of the 50’s and 60’s are:

Matt Farrell??Arthur Peel??John Moran??Roy Gibbons??

We are now selling tickets priced at £40.00. This will be for the lunch starting at 12 noon promptly and half time tea, coffee and a specially created cup cake. Please note the price does not include ground entry or match day programme.

Tickets are on sale now and can be bought from the Wealdstone Megastore and are already selling fast. We expect this event to sell out quickly.

Please pass this information on to as many people as might be interested. There will be opportunities during the day to meet the team of ’66 and have your photo taken with the players.

There must be supporters who attended the match in ’66 that have memorabilia from the day. We would like to display any photos, press cuttings or anything else relevant during the celebration day. Please let Derek Tomlin, who is kindly organising the event know. Derek’s contact details are 01895 673573 or 07778 015443.

Chairman Howard Krais commented “earlier this season we celebrated 30 years since the double winners of 1985. Now we will be delighted to recognise another incredible milestone in the Club’s history. We are very excited to have so many members of the team coming and want to make this a memorable day for the Club, and especially the team of ’66 and those supporters who were there on the day. It is important to work for the future of the Club, but just as important to recognise those who helped get us to where we are now”.
