Stones travelled over to the Parkfield Stadium on Tuesday evening for the third of their pre-season warm up matches with a side made up of first teamers and trialists.

After an understandably disjointed looking first period, Stones settled far better after the break and went to record a comfortable win against spirited Ryman Division One North side, Potters Bar Town.

Wealdstone dominated the early exchanges in the midfield on a bobbly pitch but the Scholars looked to have a better shape to their attacks and pegged the away side back for long periods.

Chances on goal were relatively few and far between for both sides but it was the home side that almost netted on 10 minutes but the ball was pulled across Stones ‘keeper Aldi Haxhia. George Nicholas was wide with a header at the other end but Richard Jolly struggled to find the pass that would put him in a shooting position whilst his front partner Dan Field worked hard but also without result.

But after Haxhia had saved well from Rob Magwood, Stones took the lead. Lee Chappell floated in a dangerous free kick and centre half Sean Cronin rose highest to nod past Ed Thomson on 36 minutes.

Stones’ Trialist defender Michael Noone caught the eye and the former Millwall and Dover man tided up efficiently at the back to keep Town’s sporadic attacks at bay.

The second period was a much more open affair and Stones were far more fluid and attempts on goal were frequent. Chappell and Rob Carrick tried their luck from range before Richard Jolly finally found himself with time and space to shoot past Thomson with consummate ease on 67 minutes to double his side’s lead.

Wealdstone continued to dominant and went further ahead a few minutes later with the best goal of the match after sub Peter Dean turned and unleashed a strike from 30 yards that caught Thomson out at his near post.

Stones brought on all of their remaining outfield subs and play became more hesitant as the home grabbed a deserved consolation from Liam Coles with 10 minutes remaining.

Wealdstone are next in action on Friday evening when they entertain Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers, kick-off 7.30pm

Wealdstone: Haxhia, Brewer, Noone, Massey, Cronin, Brooks, Carrick, Nicholas, Field, Jolly, Chappell. Subs used: Jordan, Papp, Dean, Clarke. Not used: Poniskaitis
