Hello everyone!
We are now coming to the end of another regular season but there is still so much to play for. With our win at Carshalton last Saturday confirming our play-off place, there could still be another two matches to play after today’s game. Let us hope that that we play one more play-off game than we played last season!
We welcome the players, officials and supporters of Canvey Island for today’s last game of the regular season. Canvey are hoping to squeeze into the play-offs and so they have a lot to play for this afternoon. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us and that you have a safe journey home.
The recent FA Cup Semi-Final weekend saw the club host supporters of both Wigan on the Saturday and Manchester City on the Sunday. The Supporters Club organised the usual barbecue for both sets of supporters and an incredible effort over the weekend by all those who helped saw us make a profit of over £1,400. Thanks to everyone who helped particularly, Alan Ainsworth whose efforts were described as monumental although at one point in the proceedings, he nearly set the barbecue on fire!!!! We are now thinking of closing down all Supporters Club activities and just concentrate on organising barbecues!!!
Over the last few months, new membership secretary, Seth Dalton has revamped Supporters Club membership and his efforts have really borne fruit with a steady flow of new life members. We are now nearing 140 life members. There are plenty of benefits in joining, for both life and annual membership. The benefits are listed on the Supporters Club website (www.wfcsc.co.uk) or you can pick up an application form from the Supporters Club Megastore.
After recent discussions with our Travel Supremo Jez, we have decided to reward our very loyal supporters by offering heavily subsidised travel on Supporters Club coaches to any away matches that we encounter in the Ryman League Play-offs. Supporters Club members will only have to pay £5 and non-members £10 regardless of the opponents. If we happen to be away for the play-off semi final, Jez will be taking bookings immediately after the end of today’s match in the Social Club or alternatively you can email him at Jeremy.albert@jetsetflights.co.uk or phone him on 07903 805861.
Hopefully, many of you will remain in the Social Club tonight for the club’s Presentation Night. Proceedings will commence at 6.30 pm with Supporters Club President, Nick DuGard acting as compere. A buffet will also be provided for all supporters who attend. Amongst the trophies being presented will be The Jock Law Trophy to the winner of the Supporters Club Player of the Season, a trophy to the Supporter of the Season voted by the Supporters Club Committee and a trophy for the Junior Stones Player of the Season.
One of the success stories in recent years has been our Supporters Club Megastore run by Adam Edwards and Mark Randall. The new Megastore which opened at the beginning of this season has gone from strength to strength and brings in much needed revenue which in turn has helped the Supporters Club and the main club. Why not make a visit today and see what is on offer? I am sure that if you are visiting it for the first time you will not be disappointed. It will be open before and after the match and during the half-time interval.
Another great revenue earner is our Golden Goals tickets organised by ever reliable Miriam Goodman. They will again be on sale today by the turnstiles for £1 each with the chance of winning £50 for the first goal and £10 for the last goal.
Finally, I would like to thank all of my fellow committee members for all of their help and support over the last season and let’s hope that their efforts combined with the teams efforts see us winning promotion and one step nearer to the Football League!
Up the Stones!
David Albert.
Chairman.
