Supporters Club Megastore Manager, Adam Edwards gives an update of developments within the Supporters Club and the Megastore
Here at Wealdstone; and probably many other non-league clubs around the country, there is no such thing as a close season break. It is the time to get out the paint brushes, find the old gardening trousers, remember to pick up the sun tan lotion and head down The Vale to get cracking on the next big summer project. As the days grew longer and the curtain came down on the 2012-13 season I thought this might be a good time to earn some brownie points (or football tokens as they have been recently referred to) with ‘her in doors’. There were no big plans for works down The Vale so I thought I could put my feet up and get ready to fire up the BBQ and burn some more sausages and burgers over the flames. How wrong I was. One phone call from El President later and I knew those images were nothing but a dream. As you can see Mr Bananas (Project Manager extraordinaire) was busy formulating how he was going to build a forty foot base for a new stand. Eight weeks later he could finally stand back with drink in hand and admire his and the team’s amazing efforts as the Tea Bar end finally had a covered stand to be proud of. It is extraordinary to think that in eight Saturdays the ground had been transformed once again. Something close to 80 tonnes of muck, dirt and cement had been shifted by hand, mixed on site with one mixer and pints and pints of sweat spilt constructing the structure you see before you. I can’t speak for other clubs but it is a truly magnificent effort on the part of the Stones fans that turned up each week and gave up their time to pitch in. Even to those who couldn’t spare the time but kept the workers fuelled with food and drink. I take my hat off to you all and know it is what makes Wealdstone a very different and special club.
Megastore – With the end of one season and the start of the next there is always plenty to get done in the Megastore. We have added a number of new items that are available both on match days and online via the megastore website. As you are probably aware the 1st team are sporting a new home kit and new yellow away kit (plus the existing white kit). At the current time we have all sizes of the home kit available for sale (£37 Non-members, or £35 WFCSC Members). If you pre-order the shirt online they are available for collection. The new away kit is currently at the printers and will also be available to buy within the next week or two. We are currently taking pre-orders so feel free to pop in to guarantee that you reserve one.
In addition to the 1st team kits we have also increased our stock of Macron leisurewear. We have a number of new polo shirts (available in light blue, white, yellow, navy, royal blue or grey) jackets and t-shirts. Our resident photo-artist Steve Foster kindly press-ganged three of our current squad to model a number of the new items.
A Thank You – must go to PJ & Steve Foster who have supplied between them the artwork and hardware for the New Megastore sign. It looks great and is almost the final piece to completing the Megastore jigsaw. Thank you.
Stones for the Chop – Our next big fundraising event coming up is our Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris Sporting Dinner coming up on Thursday 7 November in the Ruislip Social Club. Tickets are available and great value at £25 each – please contact Jez Albert at jeremy.albert@jetsetflights.co.uk. WFCSC members will receive a 10% discount – please book as soon as you can.
Life or Annual Membership – Whilst on the topic of amazing discounts it is still not too late to sign up for annual or life membership to the supporters club. Many already have and it entitles you to discounts in the Megastore, money off fundraising dinners, away travel discounts and much much more. It’s a snip at £25 for Life or £5 for the year.
Off the Bench & Behind the Season –We have a few copies of both Off the Bench and Behind the Season left. These can be yours for £7.50 each or both for a combined price of £10.00. You will not find a better read about the highs, lows and experiences of Non-League football.
Golden Girl – Mim will be available for purchases of Golden Goals just inside the ground for your chance to scoop an extra £50 for the first goal scored or £10 for the last goal.
Away Travel – The next Supporters Club Coach Travel (aka Jez Tours) will be back in action for the trip to Leiston. For details watch the forum or supporters club website (www.wfcsc.co.uk) or feel free to pester Jez. He is usually located either in the clubhouse before and after the game or getting in the way in the megastore at half-time. There will be discounts for WFCSC Members as always.
Finally (almost, but not quite) Arrived – We can currently process card payments in the Megastore on game days (via the computer), but hopefully in the next few weeks we will be investing in a card machine so not only can you spend more in the shop, but also retain your cash to buy pints, programmes or golden goals.
